I have designed a few toy knitting patterns for the magazine “Your Crochet & Knitting” including my unicorn and beach hut. Unfortunately some of the shades of the yarn I used to make my toys have been discontinued since I originally made them, so in this post I have suggested some alternative yarns you could use instead. The Whitley Bay Doorstop and Aurora the Unicorn knitting patterns are from Ravelry.
You can, of course, use any colours you like to knit your toys, so here are some alternative 4 ply yarns with a good choice of colours. “King Cole Merino Blend 4 ply” is a 100% wool yarn, “King Cole Giza 4 ply”, is a 100% cotton yarn, and “Sirdar Snuggly 4 ply” is a nylon/acrylic blend. All of these yarns are sold in 50g skeins. Bear in mind that you don’t need to use a 4 ply yarn for your toys, you may prefer to knit in a DK acrylic yarn. “Hayfield Bonus DK”, “Stylecraft Special DK” and “Paintbox Yarns Simply DK” are great yarns for knitting toys. I would also use the same knitting needle sizes indicated in the pattern with these yarns. I hope this information is helpful for you to choose which yarn to use for your projects. The links above are correct at the time of writing this post, but if any links are broken since, please do let me know and I will update them for you.
