Hand knits for unique Wedding celebrations. My new knitting patterns are making an exclusive appearance in Simply Knitting magazine this month. You can find the knitting pattern in issue 213, available in shops or you can subscribe online for digital or print editions from Simply Knitting. Wedding Cake There’s no need to keep this top tier in the freezer! My knitted wedding cake is a wonderful keepsake from that special day. I made this in Hayfield Bonus DK yarns, but any DK (light worsted weight or 8 ply yarn) can be used. All the pieces are knitted flat (back on forth) on a pair of 3.25mm single pointed needles. For my cake I knitted a cover for a 4 inch (10cm) polystyrene cake dummy. Cake dummies are usually used to practice icing for decorating a real cake, or used in shop displays. They are quite cheap (mine cost a few pounds from my local Hobbycraft store), and they give a nice firm base for your bride and groom to stand on. If you cannot source a polystyrene dummy, you could cut a styrofoam shape, or fill with toy filling and use cardboard to smooth the sides. For my little bride and groom I used little beads to decorate, including for the eyes, earrings for the bride, and wedding rings for both dolls. I also added a little ribbon bow on the bride’s dress. Heart Cushion Create your own love seat with my squishy love heart tattoo inspired cushion. I used Hayfield Bonus DK yarns for this cushion in shades Cerise, White, Aran and Claret. All the pieces are knitted flat (back on forth) on a pair of 3.5mm single pointed needles. To finish my cushion I embroidered “LOVE” on the scroll. I used a stabilising fabric on the back of the scroll to make it easier to add the embroidery, and used a combination of stem stitch and backstitch. You can use any other decorative stitches as you wish to personalise your cushion. 💗💗💗💗
I hope you enjoy knitting your wedding gifts, keep safe out there, and happy knitting!
