My new knitting patterns are making an exclusive appearance in Simply Knitting magazine this month. You can find both in "Issue 214 September 2021", available in shops or you can subscribe online for digital or print editions from Simply Knitting. Back issues are available from BuySubscriptions (subject to availability). Seal ToyComplete with his hat, ruff and ball, my seal toy is a circus treat little ones are sure to love. Does he get your seal of approval? The seal is 24 cm long and the ball is 7.5 cm diameter. All pieces are knitted flat (back and forth) on a pair of 3 mm straight single-pointed knitting needles using DK yarns. I used Hayfield Bonus DK yarn in shades Silver Mist, White, Peach Melba and Moss Green, but any similar DK weight yarn would work well too. Techniques you need to know to make the seal includes knit, purl, cast on and off, increases and decreases, knitting stripes, and short row shaping to make the ball. Watermelon CushionCould a knit be any juicier? This pip-filled cushion makes a refreshing décor change to perk up your sofa. The cushion knits up quick in chunky yarn, so makes a great weekend project. The finished cushion is 20 cm tall x 13 cm deep x 35 cm wide. The sides are knitted in the round using 5.5mm circular needles and Magic Loop. The base piece is knitted flat (back and forth) on a pair of 5.5mm straight single-pointed knitting needles. You will also need to cast on and off, knit, purl, work increases and decreases, knit stripes, and sew seams. To finish my cushion I embroidered the pips in black DK yarn. I knitted this in Cygnet Chunky yarns, but any Chunky weight yarn can be used. I would recommend Stylecraft Special Chunky as a good substitute, and it even has a shade called “Watermelon”. 🍉🦭🍉🦭🍉🦭🍉
I hope you enjoy knitting these, and have a great summer!
