Cast on Grandma and Grandpa’s Cottage Introducing my latest design; Grandma and Grandpa dolls with their cottage. My new knitting pattern is making an appearance in Simply Knitting magazine issue 208. I made the dolls and house in Deramores Studio Baby Soft DK yarns, which is an acrylic yarn available in 100g skeins. Grandma and Grandpa both have spectacles made by bending jewellery wire into shape … for safety, do not add spectacles if these dolls are for younger children as the ends of wire can be sharp. The doll house is made by knitting wall panels and covering plastic canvas grids that are cut to shape. These plastic grids are available from most good craft stores, and are usually used for embroidery projects. If you cannot find plastic grids you could use stiff cardboard instead. The front roof opens and the front wall flaps down, so you can add doll house furniture inside the house for playtime. I decorated the exterior of my cottage with Swiss Darning embroidery to add the windows and doors, and with vertical stitches around the base in green yarn for the grass. You can decorate the interior too if you are feeling really creative, how about little pictures on the walls or curtains? My cottage did take some time and patience to make, but I was really pleased with the result. So I do hope you enjoy making your cottage and dolls too. Please do keep safe out there, and happy knitting!
