It is National Pig Day today. This annual event to celebrate the pig is held mostly in the US, but I absolutely love pigs so I'm joining in on the celebrations today too. According to Life Magazine, National Pig Day was founded in 1972 by schoolteacher Ellen Stanley and her sister Mary Lynne Rave from Texas. They decided that the pig deserved to be celebrated annually on March 1st to “accord to the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognised, place as one of man’s most intellectual and domesticated animals.” So to celebrate the amazing piggies of the world, here are some of my pig knitting projects. Pipsqueak the Pig is a pocket sized toy. On the Farm are my pig, cow and sheep toys. My little Pig in Deramores yarn has a cuddly jumper too. My Farmyard Friends knitting pattern set includes a pig, goat, duck, cow and chicken. My pair of Pop and Pip Pigs have natty knitted dungarees to wear. This free Tiny Piggy knitting pattern is a super quick knit. Chutney Cow and Pickles Pig are best of friends. My set of Farmyard Favourites includes a pig, barn, farmer, tractor, sheepdog, cow, duck, chicken, horse, sheep, and fields play mat. Twiglet is a chubby piglet, the shape was inspired by my piggy bank. My Sheep and Pig Cushions designed for Deramores are fun little throw pillows for a farm themed room. And more quick knits are my Farmyard Pencil Toppers including a pig, sheep, cow and donkey. Happy Pig Day, keep safe out there, and happy knitting to you all!
